"The Internet, and downloading, are here to stay... Anyone who thinks otherwise should prepare themselves to end up on the slagheap of history." (Janis Ian during a live European radio interview, 9-1-98)
Teri just sent me an article about music downloads. This has been a pretty hot topic for us over the years, so I figured some of the rest of you might find it interesting, even though it's pretty long...

The downloading dilemma
I haven't made it all the way through this article yet, but it is very interesting and I have to agree with almost all of what I have read so far. I especially concur with the fact that much of what you can find by file sharing is stuff that you couldn't buy no matter what you are willing to pay. That and the fact that a big percentage of what I download is music I have already purchased - in 45's or cassettes - that it no longer makes sense to use. I also agree that being able to grab a song or two typically leads to spending money. There has GOT to be a win-win in here somewhere. Not to say I don't sympathize with creative rights, but someone out there will certainly come up with an answer to this madness. Thanks for sharing this Mike. I hope I live long enough to be able to reminisce about "how it used to be".
