It's hard to believe how quickly our summer is passing! We only have one more Friday left before I go back to 5x8's for the rest of the year. This week, we got up and goofed around a bit in the morning, and then headed out for a couple of quick stops before finally getting to our first real event of the day.
For our first event, we battled for supremacy in eighteen grueling holes of... Putt Putt Golf. It was a rough and tumble match, mostly while everybody waited for me to be the one who had a really bad hole - which I eventually did - but I proved to be the steady hand and eye to make my way to victory! Marissa got a hole in one!
After lunch, where once again we rocked out to the juke box while dining at a combined A&W/KFC restaurant, and a couple more stops, it was off to Milan Dragway for the August installment of the Skinny Kid Race Cars Friday Night Heads-Up Racing Series. While Skinny Kid has been a sponsor of this series, this is the first time they've been out to race in it this season, and Keith and Brian were on a mission to reach a personal best - a quarter mile time in the 6.2 second range. It was a fun and exciting night with some insane wheel stands in the All Motor class. One of the "Run What Ya Brung" cars burst into flames when he started his burnout at the end of the National Anthem, but nobody got hurt, and even damage to the car was minimal. Keith and Brian threw everything they had at the car, and a couple of the runs were pretty scary, but they got it perfec by the end of the night and in the final, Brian rocketed to a personal best 6.26 seconds at 226 miles per hour. (The fastest he'd gone before that was somewhere in the vacinity of 6.37 and 218, I think, but don't quote me on it.) So, we were pretty tired when we got home, and Teri and I were a bit sluggish as we got up early Saturday to drop off the kids so we could head up north for an adults-only canoe trip with my inlaws, but it was so very worth it to be there to see such a great moment in my friend's life.
